It doesn’t seem like that long ago that everyone touted Facebook’s newsfeed and Instagram’s feed as the new world for marketers to go forth and conquer.<\/p>\n

Initially dismissed as the playground of Millennials, “stories” have grown to become a viable media format in their own right.<\/p>\n
Not bad for a format that mainly consists of photos, pithy text overlays, and concise videos that sometimes disappear within 24 hours of posting.<\/p>\n
Facebook’s chief product officer Chris Cox predicted<\/a>\u00a0at this year’s F8, Facebook’s annual developer conference:<\/p>\n The increase in the Stories format is on a path to surpass feeds as the primary way people share things with their friends sometime next year.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n This is a surprising admission from a company that has put an incredible amount of effort into making its newsfeed as sticky as possible.<\/p>\n It’s even more surprising that Instagram (also owned by Facebook) only added Stories two years ago, in 2016. Adding Instagram Stories was mainly seen as a \u201chey us too\u201d catch-up move to Snapchat.<\/p>\n Today, Instagram Stories<\/a> has more than double the number of daily users than Snapchat, based on numbers announced<\/a> in June of 2018:<\/p>\n The company, owned by Facebook, announced on Thursday that more than 400 million people use the popular feature each day, up from 250 million one year ago.
