crowdSPRING Community Gives Back with Branding for Global Sanitation Non-Profit gather https://www.crowdspring.com/blog/crowdspring-community-gives-back-with-branding-for-global-sanitation-non-profit-gather/ Tue, 13 Sep 2016 15:07:36 +0000 http://blog.crowdspring.com/?p=22593

At crowdSPRING, we feel very fortunate to participate in such a vibrant community of talented creatives. It’s the work we do as a collective that makes the greatest impact. But we also value our broader, global community, and feel it’s important to make an impact there, as well. That’s part of why we launched our Give Back program back in 2008. The crowdSPRING creatives agreed to offer up their services on a voluntary basis to worthy non-profits and charitable groups at no cost to the organizations, while we agreed to waive all fees and assist in the setup and promotion of their projects. The idea was that if branding and marketing matter and these organizations are doing good work, we wanted to contribute in the best way we could. Thus, the Give Back program was born. And we’re thrilled to announce that the crowdSPRING community’s next Give Back project is to brand UK non-profit gather. This group is working to make sure underprivileged communities across the world have access to something folks in many Western nations take for granted: a toilet. An ever-growing health crisis In many developing nations, sanitation systems are in a woeful state at best and entirely absent at worst, particularly in more remote areas. It is estimated that 2.6 billion people — more than one-third of the world’s population — do not have sufficient access to a working toilet. This is often directly linked to lack of infrastructure and clean water sources, and the consequences can be dire, particularly for children. As many as 5,000 kids worldwide die every day from diseases and conditions linked to this inadequacy. Example of a Kenyan shared pit latrine Image Source: wsup.com Luckily, great strides have been made in technology that is bringing access to clean water and toilets to areas. It’s becoming more affordable and easier to build. But the problem has been scaling. As communities consolidate and grow, their sanitation and waste management needs are growing, too, in both size and sophistication. And while rudimentary solutions are certainly an improvement over no access to all to such resources, the more efficient and effective solution is one that provides for long-term and far reaching access. In order for that to happen, the brilliant minds tackling the issue need access to data. And that’s where gather comes in. Build a strong nonprofit brand.Apply to see if your nonprofit qualifies for free design services from crowdspring's Give Back program. We just emailed you info about the Give Back program. Email Address Enabling sanitation solutions The non-profit launched earlier this year with the goal of finding an effective way to build toilets and waste management systems to serve the most marginalized people. As they got down to business, though, they found that a lack of centralized information on existing infrastructure and resources was a major handicap to durable progress. “In March, we met with more than 25 sanitation providers in Kenya and Uganda, and discovered that this lack of data was a universal problem,” explains..]]>

Kids In Danger is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting children by improving children’s product safety. The organization was founded in 1998 by University of Chicago professors Linda Ginzel and Boaz Keysar following the death of their son Danny in an unsafe portable crib. KIDS’s mission is to promote development of safer children’s products, advocate for children, and educate the public (especially parents) about dangerous children’s products. You might wonder why KID’s mission is important. Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death among children. An estimated 66,400 children under age 5 were rushed to U.S. hostpital emergency rooms in 2006 for injuries associated with nursery products. An average 81 children under age 5 die annually in incidents associated with nursery products. In calendar year 2007, the U.S. Consumer Product safety commission recalled children’s products, including nuersey items, toys and clothing, at a rate of almost 4 per week. This accounts for over 46 million recalled units. KID has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the 2010 Civil Justice Foundation Community Champion Award and a Presidential Service Award given by former President Bill Clinton. Free Google Programs For Non-Profits https://www.crowdspring.com/blog/google-nonprofits/ Fri, 18 Mar 2011 14:49:51 +0000 http://crowdspring.wpengine.com/?p=10846

Three years ago, Google launched Google for Non-Profits to help non-profits raise money and operate more efficiently. Among other things, that portal offered tips and tutorials on ways that non-profits could leverage Google’s tools and services. Google also historically offered Google Checkout for free to non-profits who accepted donations on their site, and has allowed qualified non-profits to participate in Google Grants – free advertising via Google’s Adwords network. Two days ago, Google re-launched the non-profits portal and added several new and important benefits that non-profits should know about. One important change was in the application process to use the Google tools and programs. Previously, non-profits had to apply to each Google product individually. Now, non-profits can sign up through a one-stop application. Among other benefits, approved non-profits can receive up to $10,000 per month in advertising credits on Google AdWords (to reach more donors), free or discounted Google Apps products, and premium features for YouTube and Google mapping technologies. And there are now even more educational resources and case studies tailored specifically for non-profits. We’re thrilled that the crowdSPRING community’s next Give Back project is for MagazineLiteracy.org MagazineLiteracy.org is an innovative effort to help families and at-risk kids. The organization’s mission: The Magazine Publishers Family Literacy Project (MagazineLiteracy.org) is the first and only global, magazine industry-wide literacy campaign for children and families. MagazineLiteracy.org devises innovative programs that foster community and business partnerships to get new, surplus, and gently used recycled magazines into the hands, homes, and hearts of children and families so they can learn and love to read and build their self-esteem. Learning how to read is vital to a child’s ability to succeed in every school subject and in life. Adults unable to read were once children who did not learn how. MagazineLiteracy.org unleashes the awesome potential of magazines as a powerful literacy resource for teachers, early-learning programs, after-school programs, boys and girls clubs, homeless and domestic violence shelters, child advocacy and foster care programs, and other literacy agents who are passionate about helping kids and families learn to read. The organization was founded in 2004 and is supported by corporations, local businesses, literacy agents, magazine publishers and stakeholders, and individuals: The Magazine Publishers Family Literacy Project was conceived in 1994 and incorporated on International Literacy Day, September 8, 2004. The program was inaugurated on that day with the launch of MagazineLiteracy.org. MagazineLiteracy.org is made possible by the generous support of corporations and local businesses, literacy agents, magazine publishers and stakeholders, and caring individuals. Their inspiration and support has enabled us to launch programs that put magazines in children’s hands every month. We continue to add wonderful children’s magazines to our portfolio, so children in every age group can have access to every title available. The consumer magazine industry has been supportive with display advertising and invitations to participate in national conferences, such as the FOLIO: Show, where we need to mobilize stakeholders. We have joined with the Association of Educational Publishers (edpress.org) to promote Children’s Magazine Month in October each year. crowdspring Community Gives Back https://www.crowdspring.com/blog/crowdspring-community-gives-back/ Wed, 03 Dec 2008 23:14:05 +0000 http://crowdspring.wpengine.com/?p=616 breaking-the-silence.png

Crowdspring is proud to announce a new effort, just in time for the holidays. Give Back is our community’s way of helping worthy non-profit and charitable causes in need. Creatives in the crowdspring community have agreed that for these special projects, no monetary awards will be given. crowdspring will waive its fees and will assist the organizations with posting their project. We will collaborate together to help those less fortunate. This idea for Give Back originated in a discussion started by Tooley in our forums. Tooley suggested that we should look for ways to help creatives learn from each other. As the community discussed Tooley’s suggestion, it became clear that we could learn and help good causes at the same time. Artistree nicely pointed out that these projects would give creatives “a chance to help and to grow.” As in all our projects, participation will be voluntary. Give Back projects will work like standard projects, including contracts, wrap-up, notifications, etc. To help the learning process along in these projects, we will encourage creatives to collaborate and to provide constructive feedback to each other. While Give Back projects will not have monetary awards, we will find ways to recognize creatives whose work is selected. Among other things, we will write in our blog about the project and the winning creative, the work will appear on a Hall of Fame type page that we are developing (this page will display winning designs), and we will look for ways to profile the winning creative(s) on our home page. There’s at least one other benefit. We’re fortunate to have an amazing community of creatives – 10,000 of them, from 130+ countries. They speak hundreds of languages, cover all age groups, demographics, experience, and religions. They’ve created graphic designs for companies in virtually every country of the world and in most languages spoken on the planet Earth. We’ll ask the winning creatives in Give Back projects to propose other worthy non-profits and charities that can benefit from this effort. We hope that in this small way, we can help non-profits and charities around the world.
